The Celtic Sword Club, based in our Canolfan Gorseinon Centre, sent a team of 8 young fencers to enter the Welsh Youth Epee and Sabre Championships in Cardiff on Sunday, 24 January 2010. They returned with a collective haul of 11 medals, including 3 Gold medals. One of the youngsters, in fact the youngest at only 10 years old, Santino Luzzi from Killay, won 2 Gold medals himself! The competition was held at the Welsh Institute of Sport and Celtic Sword Club won more medals than any other Welsh club, making them the most successful fencing club in Wales. The team consisted of: Santino Luzzi, Libby Davies, Bronwen Marsh, Catrin Smith, Emily White, Ciaran Foley, Thomas Gibbins and Ben Rees. They range in ages from 10 to 14. They all fought extremely well, most of them have only been fencing for less than a year, while Ben and Tom are "veterans" and have been fencing with the Celtic coaches for almost 3 year! Catrin Smith was not available for the photograph. The Club is sending another team to Cardiff in 2 weeks time to fence at the Welsh Junior Foil Championships and hope to bring back more medals then. If you are interested in learning to fence with the Club or you are an experienced fencer, please contact Steve Dignam on 01792 369539 for details on attending classes. |

The recent snow showers at the start of February 2009 turned the Canolfan Gorseinon Centre into a Winter Wonderland which brought some icy visitors to the Centre's Nursery. The Centre was forced to close for one day only due to the snow, which changed the whole atmosphere surrounding the new building, as shown in the photographs. |

Volunteering is about giving your time to do something useful, without getting paid. In return you get the satisfaction of time and effort well spent. In addition, volunteering can be a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, develop new interests, gain useful experience and be part of the community. The brand new Canolfan Gorseinon Centre will provide even more volunteering and work placement opportunities within the Trust as the Centre will be run and managed by the Trust. If you are interested, you can download a volunteering information pack from this page (above) |
