Volunteering is about giving your time to do something useful, without getting paid. In return you get the satisfaction of time and effort well spent. In addition, volunteering can be a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, develop new interests, gain useful experience and be part of the community. The brand new Canolfan Gorseinon Centre will provide even more volunteering and work placement opportunities within the Trust as the Centre will be run and managed by the Trust. If you are interested, you can download a volunteering information pack from this page (above) |

A World War II British Missile was found by construction workers at the site of the new Canolfan Gorseinon Centre development at 9:40 am on Thursday, 13th September 2007. The Bomb Squad had arrived on the scene by 10.15 am. After examination by the Bomb Squad, they affirmed that there was no explosive left in the missile and they departed the site at 11:10 am with the ordinance. Gorseinon Town Councillor, Malcolm Curtis, informed the Trust that Richard Thomas & Baldwin (RTB) operated a furnace on site until 1948, receiving old ordinance to melt down as scrap. Malcolm remembers climbing into the scrap yard, as a child, to find old military materials to play with. This is the most likely source of the missile as only one stray bomb landed on Loughor during the war. |
