GDT Helps Gain Grants for Two Local Groups

The Trust was approached by the Gorseinon History Archive Society for advice on accessing funding for one of their projects.

Celia Borthwick and Sadie Clayfield of the History Society wanted to purchase equipment that would enable them to visit various groups and communities, such as sheltered accommodation blocks, to display information while they were giving talks on the history and heritage of the Gorseinon area.  The display equipment was needed to take this project forward and, with the help of the GDT, they successfully achieved an "Award for all Wales" grant in excess of £1,000.

With their new display equipment the Society were busy visiting the following venues to inform and entertain the communities:-

Thursday, 20 September 2007 - Grovesend OAP Group at Grovesend Miners Club
Tuesday, 2 October 2007 - Maes Yr Efail Sheltered Housing Complex, Gorseinon
Wednesday, 9 October 2007 - Friends of Parc Melin Mynach at the Gorseinon Institute

Thursday, 18 October 2007 - Grovesend OAP Club at Grovesend Miners Club
Monday, 22 October 2007 - Llys y Werin Day Centre, Gorseinon

Monday, 29 October 2007 - Llys Gwalia Sheltered Housing, Gorseinon
Monday, 5 November 2007 - Recycled Teenagers Group, Llwchwr Workingmens Club
Wednesday, 7 November 2007 - Loughor Senior Citizens Group, Welfare Hall, Loughor

Tuesday, 8 January 2008 - Glynhir W.I. at Pontarddulais Institute
Monday, 14 January 2008 - Robert Davies Court Sheltered Housing Complex, Pontarddulais
Thursday, 17 January 2008 - Rose Cross House Day Centre, Penlan, Swansea

The GDT also supported a bid from Maes yr Efail Sheltered Accommodation, West Street, for a grant from "Award for All Wales" of £4,833.

This grant award enabled 34 elderly residents to stay at a luxurious hotel in Bideford, Devon for 5 days and to travel in style with a local tour company, Pegasus, in a superb Joplings coach.

The photograph shows Raymond Jones and Howard Roach holding the cheque that they helped to obtain, together with the trusted Warden of Maes yr Efail, Rose Riley.
