Gorseinon Development Trust Art Feature |

The new Canolfan Gorseinon Centre has an impressive sight at the front of the building - a brand new commissioned art feature entitled Blood, Sweat and Tears that celebrates the steel industry. The Artist, Ben Clegg, was commissioned through the Arts Factory. Funding for the feature was given by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the funding for the new Centre and this money was specifically intended for the provision of an art feature.

Installation of the artwork was well underway in the photograph below.
Prototype models of the feature for the Centre were shown to the Directors of the Trust, photographs of which are shown below. The artwork is in three parts -
The central piece (above) represents a red blood cell made up of steel, about 6-8ft in circumference, which will rust in time. This celebrates the central role steel played in the life blood of the community of Gorseinon.
The two flanking pieces are made up of steel sheets, from which the shaped fins of the blood cell have been laser cut. They represent the tears and sweat and toil of the people of the community who built the town and surrounding areas of Gorseinon on the back of heavy industry. The use of modern technology highlights just as much about the future of the community as it does the representation of the past. The feature will be lit up with LED lights to provide a wonderful sight in the darkness.
An artist's impression of how the arwork will look in place.
